Art Log - Cocoon in the Abstract
Hello. This artwork is fresh off the editing screen. I was so inspired by an art festival here in Wichita I went to this weekend (it was the Autumn & Art Festival hosted at Bradley Fair). I spent some time in my driveway with my camera, looking up at our string lights strung up above our driveway and porch. I spent some time experimenting. Light painting always teaches me so much about being curious. I've done a good many years of light painting, and I am often trying new techniques of moving the camera. Speaking of which, I also took a different light painting session in the early morning from inside my kitchen out towards our fern tree. I should post those too.
Anyways, this is the result of my experimenting. I happened upon a camera movement I really liked. Essentially, I tried to keep the viewfinder in the same spot, looking towards the same cluster of light, while I spun the camera slowly around, first upside down and the right side up again. I was also intentionally being pretty shaky with the camera. Precise movements was not the goal. I wanted some jagged movement with the "paintbrushes". The end result, in my opinion, is stunning and very interesting. I think some of them looking like glowing cocoons, or pods of some kind. Enjoy!
I might be showcasing these locally, likely presenting them on projectors. I think light paintings projected on walls can be pretty cool, especially if you have multiple images projected in the same space.
